Spring
THE SNOWDROP
Snowdrops are one of my favourite flowers, they are one of the first signs that spring is on the way and that the world is slowly waking up from hibernation (me included, I have been a little quiet the last few months taking some hygge time for myself). But Spring and sunnier days are finally here and it’s time to get going again.
Seeing Snowdrops pop up brings me a sense of joy and takes me back to walks in Denmark with my Mormon (Grandma) who would always find snowdrops to pick and pop in little bud vases around their home in Copenhagen. A cosy hygge activity that I now cherish as a fond memory each year.
This is the reason that a Snowdrop features in Hugligs branding, they are such magical little flowers that create their own warmth to grow even in the coldest snowiest conditions. Looking for moments of warmth, joy and comfort is what Huglig is all about and therefore Snowdrops are the perfect little flower for us.
Finding time to notice the ways in which nature blooms is one of the ways you can introduce hygge into the season of spring. You could go for a walk and look for the bulbs that are springing up, the tulips, snowdrops and daffodils to name a few.
EASTER EGG ROLLING
Easter is the perfect time to reconnect with friends and family after the quiet, colder months that follow Christmas. It’s a season of new beginnings, when the world bursts into colour and life seems to wake up all around us.
One family tradition I’ve cherished my whole life and love sharing with friends is Easter Egg Rolling. We carefully wrap our chocolate eggs in extra foil, tuck them into a bag or basket, and head out for a long walk that must always include a steep hill. At the top, laughter fills the air as we release our eggs, racing down after them to see who travels the furthest before cracking. The thrill of chasing a rolling egg, the suspense, the inevitable giggles it all takes me straight back to being a child, every single time.
One wet Easter years ago, a family friend slipped while sprinting after his egg and ended up sliding down the hill on his bottom, caked in mud from head to toe. We still laugh about it together, years later. And as we stroll back, chocolate in hand, there’s that perfect hygge moment : warm hearts, sticky fingers, and the simple joy of spending time with the people you love most.
THE EASTER EGG TREE
Another cherished family tradition is the Easter Tree, a simple but joyful way to celebrate the season and create hygge memories at home. We gather branches, with blossoms being particularly beautiful, and decorate them with Easter ornaments : delicate glass eggs, small wooden decorations, and bright, colourful accents that bring life and cheer to any space. It’s a ritual that turns a simple corner of your home into a celebration of spring, creativity, and togetherness.
Living in Austria over the past few years has made finding the perfect branches a little more of an adventure. A couple of years ago, we were collecting my mum from the airport for her Easter visit when I spotted some breathtaking blossom branches. I knew immediately that nothing else would do for our tree. Without a word, my boyfriend instinctively pulled over, hopped out, and gathered the branches for me, understanding perfectly what I had in mind. That afternoon, we returned home and transformed the branches into a joyful, sparkling Easter Tree.
It’s a little like decorating a Christmas tree, but with the freshness and optimism of spring. Hanging each ornament becomes an act of care, laughter, and celebration a chance to slow down, enjoy the season, and create memories that linger long after the decorations come down. This Easter, why not try your own Easter Tree? Gather your favourite branches, let your creativity run free, and fill your home with colour, light, and hygge.
